Chronicling Allegations of Rutherford Administration
SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs today released the Braver Report.
The Braver Report was commissioned by former Treasurer Dan Rutherford to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct and illegal campaign activity during his a dministration.
“I promised to make this report available as soon as legally possible, and today I am delivering on that promise,” Frerichs said. “This report was paid for with taxpayer dollars and taxpayers have every right to see it.”
Frerichs has pushed for release of the report since taking office last year. At that time, the state Attorney General’s office instructed the Treasurer not to release the report because doing so could jeopardize taxpayer dollars and weaken litigation strategy. Currently, there are two lawsuits relating to the report.
Frerichs and Attorney General Lisa Madigan have worked together to release the report at a time when risk to taxpayer dollars and litigation strategy ha s been mitigated.
“When we work together, we can find solutions,” Frerichs said. “Today we were able to keep a promise to our residents, protect taxpayer dollars and continue to rebuild the trust that was squandered by the previous administration.”
The report and allegations of misconduct are entirely related to the Rutherford administration.
Treasurer Frerichs and members of his administration are not accused of wrongdoing.
